Readers in East Coweta will finally see their dream come true.

The Coweta County Commission announced Tuesday morning it had purchased a nine-acre site at the intersection of Lower Fayetteville Road and Ga. Highway 154 to build a library.

The decision comes after years of planning and scouting locations for a library site to serve the rapidly-growing region.

The library became more of a realistic proposition after voters approved an extension of the county's Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax that will pay for the library.

"This process began a long time ago, and I'd like to thank the Library Committee for their work. This is going to be good for the people of this county," said Commissioner Vernon "Mutt" Hunter.

The library site also features a lake that county officials said could be used as a future recreation site.

Officials gave no time line on construction of the facility.

Once the library is built, residents will not have to make the trek to the western side of Newnan for many of their research needs.
