Racing Is A Family Business for Clanton

Hello Georgia race fans. This past week the Steve Dale Motorsports team traveled to Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan. We had a great car, but unfortunately the No. 83 Camp Fire USA Georgia Council Chevrolet had a wild ride off the backstretch and into a foam and tire barrier. I brought the No. 83 Steve Dale Motorsports entry into the pits and my team quickly went to work. Their efforts paid off, I was able to complete 276 of 300 laps.

My teammates are like family to me and without each and every one of them this team wouldn't be nearly as successful. We have a great time working together and even though most of the team is new, we have become friends quickly over the past few months. That kind of family atmosphere is what makes racing so unique, especially in the American Speed Association (ASA) Series where sometimes you feel like you see people from competing teams more than your own family.

I am, however, lucky enough to have my brother Rusty with me week in and week out. If you don't know, Rusty is the car chief for the Steve Dale Motorsports No. 83 Chevrolet Monte Carlo this year. I really cannot tell you how helpful my brother has been to me this season. He knows my racing style and really helps to keep me focused on the race ahead.

My brother is so good at his job as crew chief for the team because he is a driver himself. In fact, two weekends ago I had the chance to help him race at Senoia Speedway. With his busy schedule, Rusty hasn't had a chance to race in over a year, and I don't think anyone was expecting his car to be the late model stock car to beat that night. Well look out! Rusty was first to the checkered flag in the Allan Vigil 100. I was really proud of him and it was great to have one of the team continue the winning streak.

This weekend we return to the North to race at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna. We tested there recently and learned a lot from our session at the track. With our win streak ended for now, we're looking forward to the challenge of putting together another series of consecutive wins and keeping our points lead. I know that this team gives me a winning car each week, so I will put the pressure on myself to get to victory lane.

Be sure to watch The National Network (TNN) this Sunday at 2 p.m. to see us in action.

Have a great week,

Joey Clanton
