Pioneers get top finishes in district meet By MICHAEL

The Southside Pioneers Track Club competed at the Georgia Games Fourth District Sports Festival at McIntosh High School over the weekend. The team, made up of some of the finest local high school, middle school, elementary and homeschool students in Fayette, Coweta and Clayton counties, performed very well and had a number of top three finishers in a variety of age groups. This weekend the team will compete in the Georgia Association Junior Olympics Qualifier in Atlanta. Stephen Pline was awarded first place in the 3,000 meter and won second place in the 1,500 meter. First place finishers in the 1,500 meter were Zachary Hethbridge, James Mathis, Vince Brown and Lisa Williams. In the 800 meter, Hethbridge, Rachel Menefee and Jason Bentley took first place finishes, while Williams placed second and Olivia Fisher took third. There were six first place finshers in the 400 meter: Mitch Sargent, J.R. Rea, Brown, Fisher and Tina Williams. Auston Childs took second place as did D.J. Wright and David Mathis. First place finishers in the 200 meter were Childs, Quinta Starr, Joy Ferrell, David Mathis, Najee Pace, and Tina Williams, while Joshua McCrary, Jessi Brown, Michael Manning, Jonathan Manning and Jana Manning placed second and Nicole Mathis, Chris Manning and Jesse Rea placed third. First place finishers in the 100 meter race were Pace, Childs, Brandon Lee, Michael Manning and Jana Manning, while Starr, Khiry Battle, Chris Manning and Emma Lee placed second and Jonathan Johnson and Jesse Rea placed third. Battle took first in the 100 meter hurdles, as did Khaneisha Pagan. In the 110 meter hurdles matt Harlfinger and Joshua White took first, while D.J. Wright finished second and Brandon Lee finished third. The Pioneers also had five first place teams in the 4x100 meter relay and two first place and one second place team in the 4x400 meter relay. In field events, first place finishers in the running long jump were Harlfinger, Starr, Ferrell, Brown, Pace, Emma Lee and James Mathis. Second place finishers were McCrary, Battle, Kenneth Bentley, Jessica Owen and David Mathis, while Jayson Bentley and Jesse Rea placed third. Kenneth Bentley, Ferrell and Melanie Stanislaus finished first in the triple jump, while Jessica Owen and J.R. Rea finished second. Ferrell also took fist in the high jump. In the shot put, Emma Lee, J.R. Rea, Olivia Fisher and Battle finsihed first while Jayson Bentley finished second.
