Ebenezer UMC will welcome former pastor for homecoming Ebenezer United Methodist Church will have its homecoming celebration this weekend, featuring former pastor Dr. Francis Ford as guest minister. The event is planned for all day Sunday, June 9, beginning with Sunday school at 9:45 a.m., worship at 11 a.m., and dinner following the worship service. Ford was pastor at Ebenezer from 1960-1965 when he entered full-time ministry and enrolled at Candler School of Theology at age 33. He has served churches throughout Georgia during his 47 years of ministry. In 1978, Ford was the first minister in Georgia to win the Bishop's Award of Excellence in scouting. In 1981, he was awarded the United Methodist Rural Fellowship's Distinguished Service Medal during the annual conference. In 1988, at age 56, he returned to school to earn his doctorate. Last year, at 69, he began taking piano lessons and now fills in for his church pianist when she is absent. "Ebenezer will always be special to me," Ford said. "It is where God used his people and church to lead me into the full time work of building the Kingdom." Ebenezer UMC is at 680 Ebenezer Church Road between Peachtree City and Fayetteville.
