LDS youth to combine service with social event this weekend Dozens of young people ages 12-18, from Newnan to Thomaston to Jonesboro, will descend on the Fayetteville YMCA, 215 Huiet Rd., Fayetteville, this Saturday, June 8. The gathering is part of the Jonesboro, Georgia Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints' annual Youth Conference, where young members from eight of the Jonesboro Stake's units come together for social, spiritual and service events during a long weekend. The Jonesboro Stake consists of units based in Newnan, Sharpsburg, Peachtree City, Fayetteville, Jonesboro, Stockbridge, Griffin and Thomaston, and totals more than 3,000 members. The highlight of the 2002 Jonesboro Youth Conference will be the service project. From 7 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on June 8, the youth and their adult leaders will be working on the grounds of the Fayetteville YMCA, cleaning paths, setting up benches and planting flowers. Youth Conference will begin Thursday, June 6 at 6 p.m. with a dance at the Jonesboro Stake Center on Jodeco Road in Jonesboro. Friday's events will include an 8:30 a.m. team building exercise at J.C. Booth Middle School in Peachtree City and an evening devotional, followed by another dance, back at the Stake Center. Following Saturday's service project, the youth and their leaders will return to the Stake Center for another devotional and a special worship service, known as a testimony meeting, featuring the president of the Jonesboro Stake, Newnan resident David H. Ingram. |
