Story on science winners overemphasized competition

I was very disappointed in the recent National Science Championship article. The real story here is that two Fayette County middle school teams, for the first time ever, placed first and second place in this prestigious national competition.

Instead the emphasis in the article was on the fact that Rising Starr won over Booth.

It is abundantly clear that the level of competition amongst students in this community is already at an extremely high level. This type of coverage only helps to create rivalry and bad feelings in a situation where there should be good sportsmanship and support.

Both schools deserve recognition for their dedication, hard work and national standings. And, although they are separate schools in Peachtree City, when they compete nationally, they are the Fayette County champion teams.
