Thursday Thunder starts up again next week There will be mascot showdowns, lawnmower races and sprint car exhibitions. There will be NASCAR Winston Cup ticket giveaways. There will be a biker night, a disco night and a Luau. And of course there will be the nine classes of thrilling Legends, Thunder Roadster and Bandolero racing that the community has come to expect. Put it all together and you have the affordable family fun and excitement of the fifth annual season of Thursday Thunder racing, which kicks off May 30 and runs each Thursday night through Aug. 8 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. More than 100 race cars are expected to jam the garage area each week as drivers from across the Southeast compete in nine classes of racing on the frontstretch quarter-mile at Atlanta Motor Speedway. With tickets priced at just $5 for adults and $1 for children 6 to 12 (kids under 6 are free), each of the 10 Thursday night programs includes a full slate of 600 Racing Legends, Thunder Roadster and Bandolero racing, along with full slate of celebrity races, contests, prizes and giveaways. New this season will be an expanded list of giveaways from local business, including Outback Steakhouse, Buffalo's, Bruster's, Manhattan's, Mana's, Sonny's, Sonic Drive-In, Chick-fil-A and Publix. As always, there will also be NASCAR Winston Cup ticket giveaways and loads of hats, T-shirts, koozies, keychains, mugs and die-cast cars. Tickets are available at Gate 13 the night of the event. Parking is free.
