Second half of summer concert series announced By MICHAEL
BOYLAN The second half of the summer concert series was announced last Friday and will offer local residents a smorgasbord of acts ranging from folk and jazz to country and rock. The second half of the series kicks off with Grammy award-winner Glen Campbell. Known for songs like "Wichita Lineman" and "Rhinestone Cowboy," Campbell has had an amazing career. He has won Grammys in both country and pop, hosted a variety show and starred in movies. Campbell will perform July 26-27. August 9-10 will feature two legends in jazz music. Joe Sample will kick off the evening and will be followed by David Sanborn. Sample is a legendary keyboard player and composer known for songs like "Did You Feel That," "Voices in the Rain," and "Ashes to Ashes." Sanborn is a Grammy award-winning saxophone player who has backed up such acts as the Rolling Stones and James Taylor. He is best known for songs like "Chicago Song," "Neither One of Us," and "Anything You Want." Frankie Avalon will perform at "The Fred" Aug. 23-24. Best known for his beach movies with Annette Funicello and his cameo in the film, "Grease," Avalon will perform a wide variety of hits including "Venus," "DeDeDinah," "Ginger Bread," and "A Boy Without a Girl." Arlo Guthrie comes to town Sept. 6-7 with his blend of folk songs and storytelling. The son of famous folk singer Woody Guthrie is famous in his own right for the songs "Alice's Restaurant," "The City of New Orleans," and "Motorcycle Song." The series will close out with a bang when legendary rockers REO Speedwagon visit Peachtree City. The band is known for some of the best power ballads of all time including "Keep On Loving You" and "Can't Fight This Feeling." Season ticket holders can renew their tickets starting this week and the deadline to renew is May 31 at 5 p.m. Series tickets will go on sale to the public Saturday, June 8, at 9 a.m. Tickets will be $100 for the five-concert package. Tickets that are not sold as the series will go on sale to the public on Tuesday, June 16, at 9 a.m. Tickets are $35 for Frankie Avalon and Arlo Guthrie and $45 for the other three shows. Before the second half of the series starts however there will be the annual show featuring the Swingin' Medallions. The band is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year Friday, July 5, at 8 p.m. The Swingin' Medallions play an energetic set featuring the music of yesterday and today.
