Is it candy or country, Booth? Say it isn't so! On Thursday the mayor and Council met at City Hall to discuss the throwing of candy at the July 4th parade. I suggested to the council that the city ask parade participants to put aside their candy money and donate it to the victims of Sept. 11. This year, especially, we shouldn't need to bribe citizens with candy to come out and support their country on the Fourth of July! Ms. McMenamin was aghast, as was Mr. Rapson. It turns out that some council members met with J.C. Booth eighth graders to discuss the huge candy-throwing debate. Ms. McMenamin quoted the Booth eighth graders as saying, "If there's no candy, we're not going!" Ms. McMenamin can't be right! Say it isn't so! I dare all Booth students to start a petition to let your City Council members know they are wrong about you! Let them know you attend the parade for your country, not the candy! For my part, I was called a "cranky old lady" for making the suggestion. Petition, anyone? Kim Morrison Peachtree City
