Downtown Fayetteville filled with fine art and food

The Old Courthouse Square will be a lively place this weekend. The 34th annual Old Courthouse Art Show will take place Saturday (10 a.m.-6 p.m.) and Sunday (11 a.m.-5 p.m.).

In conjunction with the festival, Main Street will host the Taste of Fayette across the street at Stonewall Village. The Taste will take place on Sunday only from noon-5 p.m.

The Old Courthouse Art Show will feature work from artists all over the southeast as well as from students in Fayette County schools. The professional artists are selected by a committee and exhibit all types of art including jewelry, sculpture, photograpy, wood carving, oils, watercolor and pottery. The event is coordinated by local artist Patsy Gullett and the Fayetteville Artists Association.

This year's festival is filled with extras. The Harmony Brothers Barbershop Quartet will perform throughout the day on Saturday, while the Peachtree Wind Ensemble will perform at 2 p.m. Saturday. Four scholarships will be awarded to Fayette County seniors at 2 p.m. Saturday and there will be a 5K run hosted by the Civitans and a book sale at the Fayette County Library.

Fayette County artists featured at this year's show will be Cressida Chance, watercolor; Ricahrd DeWalt, folk art and woodcarving; Keith Edmondson, woodcarving; Fayette Society of Fine Arts, various medias; Ed and Patsy Gullett, watercolors; Pam Hardin, watercolors; Gale Littleton, mixed mediums; and DD Watson, acrylic.

The Taste of Fayette has a new look to it, according to Main Street manager Nancy Price, and will serve up food from local eateries including the Wyndham's Peachtree Seafood Grill, Pascal's Bistro, Larry's Subs, El Parian, Valentino's, Right on Thyme Caterers, Applebees, and Coba Mex Grill. After purchasing your "taste" you can enjoy non-stop entertainment on the stage by Heritage Fountain. Enjoy the smooth sounds of Jim Lamb on acoustic guitar from noon-1 p.m., Brush Fire will take the stage at 1 p.m. playing all of your bluegrass favorites, with Soul Support performing 2 hours of oldies from 3-5 p.m.

Kids will have an opportunity to partake in the activities at The Taste as well. A Moon Walk and Kids Tent with Spin Art and Sand Art will be available for the younger artists.
