It will be a busy weekend for some of our local high school athletic teams. There will be some state quarterfinal soccer action in town Friday and Saturday, while several tennis teams, baseball teams and golf teams are also competing for a shot at a state title.

The McIntosh boys and girls tennis teams and the Starr's Mill Lady Panthers are playing in the state seminfinals for tennis at Stone Mountain on Saturday. The McIntosh boys will meet Collins Hill, while the Lady Chiefs will face Lassiter and Starr's Mill will face Walton.

If all three teams should win, the boys wil face the winner of Glynn Academy and Walton and McIntosh and Starr's Mill's girls would play each other. The finals will follow the semifinals and tennis begins at 9 a.m.

The baseball teams began play yesterday with doubleheaders. Fayette County hosted Northside, East Coweta hosted Griffin and Sandy Creek played at Columbus. If the teams split the doubleheaders, they will play some time this afternoon at the same venue.

The McIntosh girls golf team won the region 4-AAAAA championship last week and will play in the state tournament on Monday at Jekyll Island, while Sandy Creek, which finished second in region 4-AAAA, will play in the state tournament in Athens.

As for soccer, the Starr's Mill boys will host Brookwood tonight at 8 p.m. and McIntosh's Lady Chiefs will host Parkview tomorrow at 5 p.m. Starr's Mill's girls play tomorrow at Roswell at 11 a.m. and Newnan's girls play tomorrow at Brookwood at 7 p.m.
