Everything is comng up 'Rosie' at NCT By MICHAEL
BOYLAN School is almost over and when the final bell rings a rising chorus of "I'm bored" will be heard nearly everywhere. Newnan Community Theatre Company's production of "Really Rosie" deals with what several neighborhood friends do on a day when they are all extremely bored. Rosie is the self-proclaimed leader of a group of friends. She claims that she will be filming the story for her life and her friends are welcome to be in it, but they must audition first. Her friends, Kathy, Alligator, Chicken Soup, Johnny and Pierre audition for the show and hope that they will be chosen by the Producer and taken far away from where they are so bored. "Really Rosie" was written by Maurice Sendak, who wrote the classic children's book "Where the Wild Things Are," and the music was written by Carole King. Some of the songs that the show is known for are "Alligators All Around," "One Was Johnny," "Ballad of Chicken Soup" and of course, "Really Rosie." The show is directed by Jennifer Dorrell and Kelly Whisenhunt and stars Kate Lemere as Rosie, Chastity Garrison as Kathy, Scears Lee as Pierre, Ellen Dorrell as Chicken Soup, Reid Clark as Johnny and Elizabeth Dorrell as Alligator. Others in the cast are Katie Webb, Aubrey Clark, Hope Gillespie, Lauren Dennis, Chelsea Gannage, Hart Gillespie, Harrison McCain Ford, Markus Gleaton and Lauren Watring. "Really Rosie" will be performed May 10-12 and May 17-19 at Newnan Community Theatre. Performances are at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. on Sundays. Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors. Phone 770-683-6282 or visit www.newnantheatre.com. |
