Mud Dogs start season with tournament wins The Fayette County Mud Dogs 11-year-old baseball team recently completed a very successful preseason tournament chedule. Each tournament the Mud Dogs entered had over 10 teams. The Mud Dogs took second place in two early March tourneys, including the Rockdale Rhino March Madness tournament and the East Cobb USSSA tourney. Over spring break the Mud Dogs were tourney champs in the Gatorade Spring Shootout tourney in Gulfport, Miss. Their record in the three tournaments was 11-3. The Mud Dogs defeated the 2001 Mississippi state champion Gulf Coast Hurricanes in the tourney final at Gulfport. They also recorded victories over the Louisiana Heat, the Southeast Mississippi Mariners, the Coast Cubs and the Jones County (Miss.) Bulls. In the early March tournaments the Mud Dogs got wins over many teams including East Cobb's number one team, the Astros, the North Alabama Vipers, the McDonough red Birds and the Georgia Roadrunners. The team is now preparing for the regular season in Fayetteville.
