Sandy Creek heads to state baseball torunament By MICHAEL

Sandy Creek's baseball team is going to the state playoffs. The Patriots got wins over Salem and Woodward Academy last week to qualify for the state tourney. Eric Williams pitched a one hitter against Salem, giving up a solo homerun in the seventh inning and striking out five batters in the game. Sandy Creek won 6-1. Jarrod Jones drove in two runs, including one off of a solo homerun, while Dusty Bennett also had an RBI. In the game against Woodward Academy, Sandy Creek jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning. Griffin Hall, matt Harris and Bennett each had an RBI in the inning. Hall went the distance on the mound as well, giving up seven hits, striking out three batters and walking three. The Patriots are making their first trip to the state playoffs in school history and will face Columbus in Columbus on Thursday. Last weekend's Region 4-AAAAA games were rained out with the exception of the first game between Evans and McIntosh which Evans won 10-0. The other games were scheduled to be made up Monday and Tuesday evening. The winning teams will all qualify for the state tournament.
