Landmark girls capture Class A track title

Landmark Christian School's girls captured the Class A track and field title over the weekend. The team took first and second in the 1,600 meter relay and first in the 400 meter relay. The Lady War Eagles had seven other first place finishes in the meet.

Lindsay Vincent placed first in the long jump, triple jump and the 400 meter dash, while Rashedah Arnold placed first in the 100 meter and 200 meter dash. Kristina Eden placed first in the 1,600 meter run and fifth in the 800 meter run, while Sierra Hill placed first in the 100 meter intermediate hurdles and the 300 meter low hurdles.

Other top finishers for Landmark were Sarah King, who placed second in the pole vault, fourth in the 100 meter dash and sixth in the triple jump; Evette Holyfield, who placed third in the 400 meter dash and fifth in the 200 meter dash; Janell Henderson, who placed second in the 800 meter run and fourth in the 1,600 meter run; Emily Wood, who placed third in the 3,200 meter run and Mary Michael Joiner who placed sixth in the same event and Layla Constable, who placed fourth in the 100 meter intermediate hurdles.

In the AAAAA state girls track meet, Fayette County's Michelle Cutts placed eighth in the pole vault and Starr's Mill's Heather Krehbiel placed fifth in the 3,200 meter run.

The region 4-AAAAA boys track meet wrapped up last week and the local teams had several top ten finishers. In the 800 meter dash McIntosh's Ben Brantly finished third with a time of 1:58. He was followed by Starr's Mill's Ricardo Ramos in fifth, McIntosh's Mike Bowman in ninth and Starr's Mill's Kentavious Wilson in 10th. The Chiefs Shaun Emery placed second in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 4:33 and was followed by Ramos in fifth, Brantly in sixth and Fayette County's John Miklas and Chris Williamson in eighth and 10th place.

Emery took second in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 9:57, while Miklas took third place, Starr's Mill's Richard Epton and Bradley Morris placed fifth and sixth and Williamson placed seventh. Starr's Mill's 4x400 meter relay team placed sixth.

In field events, McIntosh's Seth Yetter placed fifth in the high jump while Fayette County's Justin McAbee placed ninth. Starr's Mill's Davey Woods and Carey Owens placed sixth and seventh in the pole vault, while Fayette County's Ben Londrillo placed 10th.

Starr's Mill had three other top ten finishers; Josh Antones placed seventh in the long jump, Che Brewer placed sixth in the triple jump and Patrick Morrison placed 10th in the Discus. The boys state tournament takes place this weekend.
