McIntosh tennis teams advance to state semifinals

McIntosh High School's boys and girls tennis teams will find themselves in a familiar spot this Saturday. Both teams have advanced to the state semifinals at Stone Mountain and they are hoping for better results than last year. McIntosh wants the state tennis title.

The boys advanced by defeating Houston County in the first round 5-0, and then beating Lowndes 3-0. Singles winners against Houston County were B.J. James, 6-2,6-2; James Dwyer, 6-0,6-1 and Marc Dwyer, 6-0,6-0. Doubles winners were Robert Lochridge and Justin Hale, 6-0,6-0 and Phil Van Fossan and Stefan James, 6-1,6-1.

In the match against Lowndes, James and the Dwyer brothers won again. James won 6-1,6-0, while James Dwyer won 6-0,6-1 and Marc Dwyer won 6-1,6-3. Both doubles matches were pulled but the McIntosh teams were winning at the time.

The girls opened the state playoffs with a match against Hardaway. Singles winners for the lady Chiefs were Priscilla Roberts, 6-0,6-0 and Rebecca Timmis, 6-0,6-1. The doubles winners for McIntosh were Shelby Carlson and Sunya Sweeney, 6-1,6-3. Singles winners for the Lady Chiefs in the second round were Rebecca Timmis and Denise Daughenbaugh who both won 6-0,6-0. Doubles winners were Adriane Hodges and Lauren Wilde, 6-1,6-0 and Sunya Sweeney and Shelby Carlson, 6-0,6-0.

The McIntosh boys will open the semifinals against the winner of Harrison/Collins Hill, while the girls will face Lassiter.
