Gay activists, not cultural conservatives, pushing issue

Last week's lead [column] would have been humorous if it hadn't been so sad. Mr. John Thompson seemingly wants us to believe that the Bible has no problem with homosexuality. He found some writer who believes that he has the "secret" meaning to the writings in Genesis 18, Exodus 20, Leviticus 18, Romans 1 and 1 Corinthians 6 and finds that, surprise, the Bible has no problem with homosexuality.

Second Timothy 4:3 seems appropriate here: "The time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear."

Mr. Thompson puts his faith in a book that tells us what the Bible "really" says. I put my faith in the Bible itself and I can read it for myself. Some Biblical issues are not always clear, but this certainly isn't one of those issues. So what does the Bible "really" say?

Besides the very clear references mentioned above that are specific to homosexuality, the Bible clearly teaches that marriage is only between a man and a woman. It also clearly teaches that sex outside of marriage is a sin. By definition this would classify all homosexual relations as sin.

Mr. Thompson also mentions that Jesus never specifically taught against homosexuality. He also never taught about pedophilia, or drug dealing, or many other specific actions. He did, however, confirm that the Old Testament Scriptures were God's word and that God would enable the writing of the New Testament.

But to get to the point about the completely separate issue of the homosexual agenda of "fairness" as raised in the very title of the editorial: The conclusion one must make from Mr. Thompson's article is that society is not allowed to have any standards of behavior because that would be "unfair" to anyone who wants to engage in that behavior.

Mr. Thompson needs to understand that there is not a right-wing "movement" against homosexuals because homosexuality is a sin. There is a cultural outcry against homosexuality because the homosexual activists have brought the issue into the cultural arena and insisted on having their way of life defined as a normal and protected part of our society.

There is no cultural outcry against wife-swappers, for example, because wife-swappers are not parading in the streets and invading our airways and demanding constitutional protection for their way of life.

The homosexual lifestyle is a choice made by each individual and is not the same as race or gender. If the homosexual activists succeed with their agenda, and I'm guessing that to be reasonably likely, it would not surprise me at all that my grandchildren will be dealing with "pedophile rights" issues because some doctor finds a gene that makes their way of life protected, according to Mr. Thompson's standards.

No, sir, I do not want my kids or grandkids to grow up in a nation that believes that homosexuality is normal and okay, because according to the standard of truth that I hold to, it is not.

P.S. Mr. Thompson, just because I very strongly disagree with you does not mean I hate you. I don't. This is not a love and hate issue, it is a right and wrong issue.
