Restaurants being renovated
By MONROE ROARK
A popular restaurant along downtown Fayetteville's busy Ga. Highway 85 corridor is undergoing a major makeover, and another nearby is making plans to the same thing. It's hard for motorists not to notice the renovations underway at Dunkin Donuts just off the square, as workers have been taking the building apart since the beginning of the week. The eatery is expected to be closed for a few weeks while the facade and exterior is being renovated. Representatives of the McDonald's a few blocks north of Dunkin Donuts have petitioned the city for permission to tear down their existing building at 465 N. Glynn Street and replace it in the same spot with an updated facility, which would include a new parking area, curbing, and intensified landscaping, according to city staff reports. The proposed architectural upgrades would also include an indoor play area. After getting approval from the Planning and Zoning Commission, McDonald's is moving forward with its plans hopes to begin work by late summer or early fall, with a reopening about three months later, according to construction project manager Andy Blackburn.
