Soccer teams advance to second round of state By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
The state soccer playoffs have begun and both Starr's Mill's and McIntosh's boys and girls teams have advanced to the second round, as have Newnan's Lady Cougars. McIntosh hosted Bradwell Institute on Tuesday night and won 4-0. Nick Corley scored one goal and Patrick Murray had a hat trick. The win pits them against Warner Robins on the road Monday evening. The Chiefs and the Demons have faced off several times before and always seem to meet in the state playoffs. Starr's Mill hosted Benedictine on Tuesday and won 3-0. Goal scorers for the Panthers were Ben Ragan, Chris Bowen and Chris Lambing. The Panthers will host the winner of Houston County and Lee County on Monday night. Fayette County's boys traveled to take on Windsor Forest on Tuesday and lost 2-1, ending their season. The Fayette County Lady Tigers lost the following night to St. Vincents, 3-2. Wednesday night did produce three more wins for local teams. The McIntosh Lady Chiefs took on Brunswick and won 13-0. McIntosh will return to action on Tuesday when they host Tift County, which won their game against Houston County, 1-0 on penalty kicks. Starr's Mill's Lady Panthers hosted Wayne County and won 7-0. The Lady Panthers will travel to take on Hardaway next Tuesday. Hardaway won their first round game 13-0 over Ware County. Newnan's Lady Cougars defeated Glynn Academy, 4-1 and will travel to face Lowndes on Tuesday. Lowndes advanced to the second round of the AAAAA state tournament with a 7-0 win over Westside.
