The regular season of high school athletics is done, as are many region tournaments. Several of our local soccer teams are playing in the state tournament, while our baseball teams are duking it out in the region this weekend to find out who is state bound and who isn't. Golf, tennis and track have also finished their region tournaments and are preparing for or already playing in the state tournaments.

The region tournaments of baseball starts today with doubleheaders. Starr's Mill plays at Fayette County at 5:30 and 8 p.m., while McIntosh plays at Evans at 4 and 6;30 p.m. East Coweta hosts Stockbridge at 4:30 and 7 p.m. and Newnan plays at Henry County at 4:30 and 7 p.m. as well. If a third game is necessary they will take place at the same venue on Saturday. McIntosh will play at 1 p.m., East Coweta at 2 p.m., Newnan at 3 p.m. and Starr's Mill at 7 p.m.

The Sandy Creek girls golf team, cocahed by Jim Waller, finished second in the region and qualified for the state tournament for the first time in school history. The Lady Patriots played at Honey Creek golf course and finished second to Woodward Academy. Amanda Thomas had the low score of 100 and was followed by Brittney Bryant with a 104 and Erin Mahone with a 115. They finished the season with a 12-0 record and will travel to the University of Georgia course in Athens for the state tournament on May 13.

McIntosh's boys and girls tennis teams made the AAAAA state tournament. The boys were scheduled to play Houston County and the girls were scheduled to meet Hardaway by Thursday afternoon. If the boys win their match, they will take on the winner of the Lowndes/Wayne County match this weekend. If the girls win their match, they will take on the winner of Valdosta and St. Vincent's this weekend.

The girls state track meet will take place in Albany, Ga. this weekend, while the boys meet will be held in Jefferson, Ga. next weekend.
