Rooster's crow is an unwelcome sound in Fairburn By JOHN
THOMPSON
The suburban and rural elements of Fairburn came to a crowing crescendo Monday night as residents begged for relief from noisy rooster. More than 10 residents descended on the City Council Monday with a request to silence the cocks that have been crowing at odd hours on Sir Charles Drive. Kipy Johnson said this is not what she had in mind when she moved to Fairburn. "Those two roosters are a nuisance. The crowing goes on continuously. It's no longer a small town," she said. Derek Jefferson, who works for the Secret Service, is concerned about property values. "I'm moving to Washington in a year and want to make sure I get the price I want for the property," he said. During the council's workshop before the meeting, Mayor Betty Hannah showed a petition that was being circulated by residents to do something about the noisy birds. Hannah also attached a copy of the city's noise ordinance and said the owners were cited for violations on Monday. She told the angry residents the council would look at tightening up the ordinance. "I know what you're going through. Their's a rooster in my neighbor's back yard,' she said.
