BOYLAN Opening Friday Hollywood Ending Woody Allen's latest about a director who goes temporarily blind and must hide it from the cast and crew. Placing this on the same weekend as Spiderman must be punishment for something. Rated PG-13. Spiderman Oh yeah! This film, based on the comic book and sticking strictly to the origins of the superhero, is directed by Sam Raimi and stars Tobey Maguire and kirsten Dunst. Rated PG-13. Now Playing A Beautiful Mind This film won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Russell Crowe, last year's Best Actor, was nominated again for his portrayal of the brilliant but troubled John Forbes Nash Jr. Jennifer Connelly and Ed Harris also star in this terrific film directed by Ron Howard. Connelly won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Rated PG-13. Blade II Wesley Snipes returns as the half human/half vampire vampire slayer. In this film he must team up with vampires to fight even nastier vampires. If this sounds corny or stupid to you, this is probably not your cup of tea. However, if you liked the original, I hear the sequel is even better. Rated R. Changing Lanes Ben Affleck and Samuel L. Jackson square off in this thriller about two men pushed to the limit on a very bad day. This is now the number one movie in America. Rated R. Clockstoppers Nickelodeon releases this film about a fantastic invention that allows the wearer to move at lightning speed. The visual effects look amazing and this could be a charming family film . Rated PG. E.T. the Extra Terrestrial I can't believe it has been 20 years since this film first hit theaters. We are all getting so old. There are probably hundreds of thousands of children who have not seen this movie before. It will be a magical experience for all. In case you don't know, this is about a little boy named Elliot and his alien friend E.T. A guy named Steven Spielberg directed it. Rated PG. Frailty This is a very good movie. There is a killer on the loose and Matthew McConaughey believes that his brother is the killer. That is just the tip of the iceberg. The film really focuses on the father of the boys who believes God told him to kill demons. It is spooky but not scary, intense but not grotesque. Frailty is a good film with some neat plot twists. Rated R. High Crimes Ashley Judd plays a defense attorney who teams up with a former attorney played by Morgan Freeman to defend her husband in a military court case. Rated PG-13. Ice Age A computer-animated film about four prehistoric animals taking a human child back to the human tribe. Denis Leary, Ray Romano and John Leguizamo are just some of the voice talent in the picture. Rated PG. Jason X Finally. The latest installmnet of the Friday the 13th series was supposed to come out several times before now and it kept getting pushed back. The plot revolves around Jason, the hockey mask wearing ghoulie from beyond the grave, slicing and dicing in space. Will it be any good? Probably not? Will that stop me from seeing it. Nope. Rated R. Life or Something Like It Angelina Jolie plays a tv news reporter who is told by a homeless psychic that she has one week to live. She re-examines and re-evaluates her life, falls in love and, well, who knows what happens to her. I haven't seen the movie yet. I'm guessing things turn out all right though. Rated PG-13. Murder By Numbers Sandra Bullock plays an investigator trying to capture a killer or killers. The killers in this film are teenagers who think they have created a foolproof way to get away with murder. The previews are spooky and the film may be good. It better be with the big summer movies coming just around the corner. Panic Room Director David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club) stays dark with this thriller about a single mom and her child trapped in their house, and their panic room, by three intruders. Jodie Foster stars. Rated R. The Rookie This was a very good, feel good movie. Dennis Quaid plays Jim Morris in this film which is based on the true story of one of the oldest rookies in the major leagues. I will admit it. I got misty. Rated G. The Scorpion King In last year's "The Mummy Returns" audiences saw a flashback about the origin of the Scorpion King. Now, there is a feature film about him and The Rock resumes his role as the warrior. I liked the Mummy movies but don't know if this will be as good. Rated PG-13. The Sweetest Thing Cameron Diaz stsrs as a woman who falls for a guy in this romantic comedy. The film is being likened to "There's Something About Mary" and puts a interesting twist on the gross out comedy genre as the main characters are women. Rated R. We Were Soldiers Mel Gibson stars in this film based on one of the first battles in the Vietnam War. Parts were filmed in Georgia. Greg Kinnear, Chris Klein and Barry Pepper also star. Rated R. Also Playing A Walk to Remember Mandy Moore stars as a bookish, nerdy girl who falls for a boy from the wrong side of the tracks. This is based on Nicholas Sparks' bestselling novel. Rated PG. Big Fat Liar Frankie Muniz, TV's Malcolm, stars in this comedy for the kids. He plays a liar who must get a movie producer to tell the truth. Rated PG. Black Hawk Down Ridley Scott's critically acclaimed film about a real life mission gone wrong in Somalia. Josh Hartnett and Ewan McGregor star. Rated R. Collateral Damage Arnold Schwarzenegger hunts down the terrorist that killed his family. Arnie goes back to what made him famous, bloody vengeance. Rated R. Death to Smoochy Robin Williams plays the host of a children's show who goes crazy when he is fired. The object of his murderous obession is Smoochy, a giant purple rhino, played by Edward Norton. Rated R. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone This film, based on the wildly successful children's book series, is a treat for both children and adults. There are great performances all around and the visual effects are astounding. Rated PG. In the Bedroom I was pulling for this film to take home the Oscar. It features powerful acting, confident directing and a wallop of a story. Sissy Spacek, Tom Wilkinson and Nick Stahl star. Rated R. Queen of the Damned This is Aaliyah's final film and unfortunately I heard it wasn't very good. This is based on Anne Rice's third installment in her Vampire Chronicles, why they ditched the cast of "Interview with a Vampire" and skipped "The Vampire Lestat," we may never know. Rated R. Return To Neverland The sequel to Disney's Peter Pan. The story focuses on Wendy's children and the boy who never grew up. Rated G. Snow Dogs Cuba Gooding Jr. inherits a team of sled dogs and enters a race. This is a Disney film, so I'm sure he wins and learns many valuable lessons along the way. Rated PG. The Count of Monte Cristo A swashbuckling tale of revenge starring Guy Pearce and Jim Caviezel. I heard somebody call this 'The Count of Monte Crisco' and almost lost it. Rated PG-13. The Time Machine Guy Pearce stars as a time traveler who goes int the future to save the human race. This got lots of bad reviews but looked very cool. It can't be that bad for a buck. Rated PG-13.
