Music Midtown set to entertain for three straight days By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Are you a rock music fan or is rap your cup of tea? Perhaps you'd rather listen to blues or bluegrass? Maybe jazz or latin music is what gets your toes tapping. Whatever musical style you enjoy, Music Midtown has it. The three-day event returns to the area around SciTrek and the Atlanta Civic Center this weekend and people from all over will be attending the festival. Music Midtown has moved around in its nine-year history but this is the second year at the same site and it is a great venue. There are food vendors scattered among the 10 stages where over 130 acts will be performing, as well as an artists market, a kids zone, a performance art and film festival and more. Though there is lots to do when you're not watching a band, the music is definitely the main attraction and this year's lineup is terrific. Friday night will feature some classic rock artists like Jethro Tull, David Lee Roth and War. Roth is rumored to be touring with a Van Halen cover band and may be playing some old Van Halen tunes as well as some of the hits from his solo career. For fans of modern rock, Hoobastank and Incubus will both perform on the 99x stage. Atlanta artists Injected, along with the Fayetteville band Acres, will perform on the Locals Only stage. Also performing on Friday will be Bo Diddley, Francine Reed, John Butler Trio and Slim Fatz and Dave. Saturday's action starts earlier in the day and will feature all sorts of amazing acts. Earth, Wind and Fire will play as will Ohio players, Mark Farner of grand Funk Railroad, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Tinsley Ellis and Don McLean. Also rocking out on Saturday will be Skid Row, Kid Rock, Bush, Counting Crows, Adema, Bubba Sparxxx, Stone Temple Pilots, Zydefunk and Zydeco Boneshakers among many others. Music Midtown wraps up on Sunday with some of the biggest acts of the weekend. Garbage and No Doubt will both play on the 99x stage, while other stages will feature Bonnie Raitt, Mystikal, Rick James, Mothers Finest, Albita, Better Than Ezra, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, and Puddle of Mudd among dozens of others. Those bands are merely the tip of the iceberg. For a complete listing of bands and schedule, visit www.musicmidtown.com. Tickets for the three-day event are $40 for all three days and can be purchased at any Ticketmaster outlet, at the event or by calling 404-249-6400. |
