People living near the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater may hear hitch-pitched squeals and screaming this Friday and Saturday night, as former teen idol David Cassidy makes a tour stop in Peachtree City.

Cassidy, better known to legions of fans as Keith Partridge of the hit musical group and television series "The Partridge Family," is currently on tour singing his hits from his 30-year career. Last week, Cassidy performed in England and Scotland, where his album "Then and Now" has recently gone platinum. The album is being released in the U.S. May 7 with an additional tune.

Cassidy's career began in the late 1960s with appearances on television programs like "Bonanza," "Adam 12," and "The Mod Squad." He got his big break in 1970 when he was cast as Keith Partridge on "The Partridge Family," a show about a musical family based on the group The Cowsills. Cassidy starred in the series opposite his stepmother, Shirley Jones, who played his mother on the program.

Cassidy and The Partridge Family were overnight successes. They had the number-one single of the year, "I Think I Love You," and multiple Grammy nominations. Several of the songs from the show went to the top of the charts, including "Doesn't Somebody Want to be Wanted," "I Woke Up in Love This Morning," and "Breaking Up is Hard to Do." Cassidy found himself very popular among teenage girls, gracing the covers of hundreds of magazines worldwide and with a fan club that became the largest in history, surpassing the fan clubs for Elvis and The Beatles.

Eventually, "The Partridge Family" went off the air and Cassidy had a successful solo career. He sold over 25 million copies of his records and broke box office records at venues like Madison Square Garden and the Houston Astrodome. He was recognized with 18 gold and platinum recordings, including four consecutive multi-platinum albums.

Cassidy continued acting and found himself earning an Emmy nomination for his work on "A Chance to Live," the highest rated "Police Story" episode ever. He has also appeared on Broadway as Joseph in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and in "Blood Brothers."

Cassidy also found success in Las Vegas where his work on shows like "EFX," "At the Copa" and "The Rat Pack is Back" have thrilled audiences since 1996. He began performing his songs in 2001 and embarked on a tour around the world. He has re-recorded the hits that made him famous as well as some new ones for his album "Then and Now," and is enjoying success doing what he loves.

The Amphitheater is excited to feature a major pop star like Cassidy. His agent called and asked Amphitheater Director Donna Romeo if there was space for him during the summer series as several artists who had performed at "The Fred" highly recommended it as a great venue with great fans. Cassidy ended up being the first act booked and fans from all over the world have shown interest in getting tickets for the shows.

"We got calls from people in the U.K.," said Romeo. "Some people from all over the country bought tickets for the entire series just to go to the show this weekend."

David Cassidy is performing Friday and Saturday at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater in Peachtree City at 8 p.m. There are standing-room-only tickets available for $45. These will go on sale at 6 p.m. the day of the show.
