McIntosh tennis teams claim region titles By MICHAEL
BOYLAN The McIntosh boys and girls tennis teams won region championships last week. The Lady Chiefs defeated Newnan, Evans and Starr's Mill on their way to the title, while the boys defeated Lovejoy, Stockbridge and Evans. Singles winners for the girls against Newnan were Rebecca Timmis, 10-3 and Denise Daughenbaugh, 10-1. Renae Clarke was winning her match 6-1 when it was pulled. Doubles winners for the Lady Chiefs were Adriane Hodges and Lauren Wilde, 10-0 and Sunya Sweeney and Shelby Carlson, 10-0. McIntosh faced Evans in the semifinals and won 4-0. Timmis and Daughenbaugh won their singles matches, while Priscilla Roberts match was pulled. Hodges and Wilde and Carlson and Sweeney won their doubles matches. The final pitted McIntosh against Starr's Mill. Daughenbaugh won her singles match against Gabby Acuna, 6-4, 6-4. Roberts match against Jenny Shular was pulled at 6-2, 5-5, and Timmis' match against Shayna Simmons was pulled at 3-6, 5-2. Hodges and Wilde defeated Lisa Gentillini and Lauren Dillon, 6-0, 6-0, while Sweeney and Carlson defeated Jana Ritter and Sarah Hall, 6-1, 6-2. The boys faced Lovejoy in the second round and won 5-0. Singles winners were B.J. James, 10-0; James Dwyer, 10-3 and Marc Dwyer, 10-6. Doubles winners were Robert Lochridge and Justin Hale, 10-0 and Phil Van Fossan and Stefan James, 10-0. In the semifinals, the Chiefs faced Stockbridge and won 4-0. James and Marc Dwyer both won their singles matches while B.J. James match was pulled at 5-4. Lochridge and Hale and Van Fossan and James won their doubles matches 6-2, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-0 respectively. McIntosh defeated Evans in the final 5-0. James won his singles match, 6-2, 6-1; James Dwyer won his match 6-4, 6-2 and Marc Dwyer won his match, 6-0, 6-0. Hale and lochridge won their doubles match, 6-1, 6-2 and Van Fossan and James won their doubles match, 6-3, 6-4.
