Fayette baseball teams enter postseason play By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Fayette County's high school baseball teams are representing themselves well in their respective regions. Fayette County, McIntosh and Starr's Mill have all qualified for the region 4-AAAAA tournament, while Sandy Creek is currently in third place in region 4-AAAA. Fayette County finished the regular season in first place with a 14-1 record. The Tigers have won seven in a rown and have scored double digit runs in their last six games, outscoring their opponents 76-22 over that span. They will open the region tourney by playing the eighth seed, Newnan (8-7). The McIntosh Chiefs, which finished in fifth place with a 10-5 record, will face Evans, the fourth seed. The Evans Knights handed McIntosh a 7-0 loss last Friday after the Chiefs had produced wins earlier in the week over Jonesboro and Morrow. The Chiefs ended the season on Monday with a 2-0 win over Stockbridge. Starr's Mill nabbed the seventh spot with a 8-7 record and will face Henry County, which finished the season with a 13-2 record. The Panthers lost to Evans and Morrow last week but ended the season with a 13-3 win over Riverdale. Sandy Creek's Patriots lost to Heritage, 5-3, last Friday and then lost to Jones County, 14-1 on Monday. The Patriots (8-6) are in third place and are scheduled to play at Salem (5-9) today at 5:30 p.m. and will host Woodward Academy (8-6) also on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
