First Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City seeking leaders for small groups ministry Ten years ago, the First Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City began its Small Groups Ministry a ministry which works through small groups of people meeting weekly to discuss common areas of concern or interest, build relationships, and reach out to others growing in the Christian faith. Last month, the church celebrated its tenth anniversary in the ministry and announced ten new groups planned for future meetings. In addition to members, the church is seeking leaders for these groups. Topics include: Couples of mixed faith; young couples with toddlers/preschoolers; parents with teens; newcomers to Peachtree City; newcomers to First Presbyterian; physically fit Christians; caring for/understanding your elderly parents; empty nesters; adults 55 and beyond; and Christian business women. How often a group meets, which day of the week, the time of day, and the length of group meetings are all negotiated and agreed upon by the particular group's leader and its members. Pastors Don Smith and Sandy Wilmesherr, along with small groups leader Fran Plunkett, assist with any study material recommendations, mission work, and other needs desired by the group. Sessions have focused on such topics as group dynamics, relationship building, fostering unity and the power of prayer. "A member of a small group at First Presbyterian has many advantages," a spokesperson said. "Members gain a sense of Christian community as they develop close relationships and friendships. They gain excellent support in times of crisis, change and stress, and encouragement to be a caring Christian. They also explore the Bible closely in a comfortable environment." The ministry is open to the entire community. Those interesting in joining or leading a group are asked to call Fran Plunkett, 770-631-0628, or Lori O'Bar, 770-631-3406. |
