We must stand for what is right against wrong I am writing to thank you for your stance on homosexuality and homosexual adoption. I, like yourself, believe that homosexuality is a choice, not a trait, and a sin as well. I often lament the lack of "conservative" Christian world-view apologists stepping up to the plate and standing in the gap for truth, so here I am getting in line with you. I have one thing to add to your editorial in The Citizen [April 24]. My observation is that if we continue to allow behavior outside of what is normal and acceptable to be called normal and acceptable, when will it end? Take the "cloning debate," for example. Where is the debate here? We are creating an entire class of human beings simply for the purpose of destroying them. It's just an embryo, some say. It's not going to be allowed to become a human, some say. Is that so? First, this embryo is a human from the start and at some point, if cloning is made legal, somebody with my world view is going to want to save some of these people and will secretly allow them to become full-grown humans. What happens when they are found out? Herd them into a gas chamber and dispose of them? Never happen, you say? Try to remember 60 years or so ago when several entire classes of people were viewed in much the same manner as these pre-born humans are right now. Didn't the Germans experiment on the Jews (and other groups as well, including homosexuals) in the same way as is being proposed for the clones? This is a terrifying prospect for any thinking, rational human being. My connection between homosexuality and the destruction of human clones is this: It has to do with the slippery slope of what is defined as acceptable choices and behavior. At some point, if we do not define what is right or wrong in our society, very soon there will be no right or wrong. Mr. Beverly, your stance is correct. I realize that I am hyperbolizing, but not nearly as much as the other side does and certainly not in any manner that is outside the realm of past human experience. Like you, I am tired of the truth of what is happening not being spoken and I am ashamed that I have taken so long to speak up. Every person with a similar view needs to make their voice heard. Quit shaking your head at the headlines and hoping and praying for it to stop. Of course, keep praying; it's likely the best action you can take. But listen to God after you pray and discern what action you need to take to effect positive change in the world today. Open your mouths to speak truth and take decisive action. If you (everyone that is reading this, and I) don't stop this thought process and world view, no one will. Brendan Carruthers Fayetteville
