McIntosh and Starr's Mill soccer teams meet tonight for region championship By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
If you want to watch some great soccer tonight, head over to McIntosh High School where Starr's Mill's boys and girls face off against McIntosh's boys and girls for the region championship. Again. These four teams met in the region championships last year at Starr's Mill and the Starr's Mill boys and the McIntosh girls were crowned region champs. Expect hard-fought matches tonight with the girls game scheduled to start at 6 p.m. an the boys game following at 8 p.m. The road to the region championships continued Tuesday night as McIntosh's boys defeated Newnan at home 2-1, which was the same score as when the two teams met a little over two weeks ago. The Lady Chiefs faced Fayette County afterwards and won 8-1. McIntosh had a 2-0 lead at the half and got their final three goals in the final seven minutes of the game. Across town Starr's Mill's Lady Panthers defeated Newnan 4-0, also after jumping out to a 2-0 lead at the half. The Starr's Mill boys hosted Fayette County and won 1-0, scoring in the first half and hanging on for the win. While McIntosh will host the region championships tonight, Newnan will host the Fayette County Lady Tigers at 7:30 p.m. to determine third and fourth place, while Fayette County will host the Newnan boys at 7 p.m. for the same reason. All four teams in both the boys and girls groups will enter the state tournament next week.
