Local girls fare well at region track meet By MICHAEL

The Girls Region 4-AAAAA track meet took place at Starr's Mill and wrapped up Monday evening and though Riverdale finished in first place, the local teams gave a good showing. Fayette County finished fifth overall, while Starr's Mill placed seventh, East Coweta placed ninth and McIntosh finsihed 10th. East Coweta's Christina Morgan placed first in the pole vault at 8'06". Morgan was followed by Fayette County's Michelle Cutts, who also vaulted 8'06". Other first-place finishers were Fayette County's Margaret Sams in the 1,600-meter run (5:29.87) and Starr's Mill's Heather Krehbiel in the 3,200-meter run (11:37.87.) Krehbiel placed third in the 1,600-meter run (5:37.38) while Sams placed second in the 800-meter run (2:21.72) and 12th in the high jump. East Coweta's Sanina Robinson placed second in the long jump (18'01.25"). McIntosh's Tiffany Grant placed eighth (16'03.75"), and Fayette County's Katie Gaspierik placed 10th (15'10"). Starr's Mill's Aneesha Lowe placed 15th while teammate Jessie Wood was 25th and Fayette County's Christian Brown was 27th. Gaspierik also placed eighth in the 1,600-meter run (5:55.49), while Grant placed second in the 200-meter dash (26.31) and fifth in the 100-meter dash (12.83). Other finishers in the 1,600-meter run were McIntosh's Megan Spencer, who placed ninth at 5:57.41, along with East Coweta's Ateala Tuff (19th), McIntosh's Judy Thomasson (21st) and East Coweta's Courtney Head (25th). Tuff also placed 11th in the 3,200-meter run and was followed by Thomasson, who finished 12th. Starr's Mill's Angela Garza placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 91'07". She was followed by teammate Sarah Huemphner in eighth place (88'06"). McIntosh's Gwen Kenny placed 25th in the discus with teammate Chantel Cooper in 26th place. Garza also had a 21st-place finish in the shot put. Fayette County's Cammy Andrews placed third in the high jump (5'2"), while Starr's Mill's Maggie Campbell placed eighth with a jump of 5' and teammate Amanda Owens placed 11th. Fayette County's girls also did well in the triple jump. Camille Lily placed fifth with a jump of 34'07.75" while Kanisha Pagan placed 17th. McIntosh's Lauren Davis placed 17th in the shotput. Davis was followed by teammate Lia Patterson in 19th place, Garza in 21st place, Starr's Mill's Meghann Niesen in 25th place and Fayette County's Erin McKelvey in 27th place. McIntosh's Alyssa Anderson placed fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:00.38), while teammate Spencer placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (17.29) and Fayette County's Erica Hall placed third in the 100-meter dash (12.70). In the 800-meter run Starr's Mill's Erin O'Hara placed fourth (2:32.93) and was followed by Fayette County's Anne Hancock in fifth place (2:32.94), McIntosh's Marle Lehman in sixth (2:34.08) and Melissa Anderson, also a Lady Chief, in ninth place with a time of 2:38.99. Rounding out the finishers in the 3,200-meter run were Starr's Mill's Leigh Anne Norris in eighth place (13:22.96) and Fayette County's Jennifer Young in 10th place (13:32.54). Young's teammate Kyle Magerl placed 15th and McIntosh's Alexandra Huguelet placed 16th. McIntosh's 4x400-meter relay team placed eighth (4:16.96) and Starr's Mill's Kristin Olson place seventh in the 300-meter hurdles (48.63). The region 4-AAAAA boys meet will also take place at Starr's Mill beginning Saturday at 10 a.m. and wrapping up Monday at 5 p.m.
