Special election could be held in July By JOHN
THOMPSON The earliest Fairburn could have a new councilman would be July. That's the assessment of city attorney Brad Sears, who is trying to determine when the city can hold a special election and replace Councilman Gene Wiggins, who resigned April 15. Sears told the City Council Monday night that he was still researching the state law concerning special elections. There are four dates, he said that an election can be called and the primary in July could be the city's best bet. If the city can't hold the election in July, Sears said the other options would be a date in September or the general election in November. Wiggins resigned his council position after moving out of the city to Newnan. City Councilman Doug Crawford said Wiggins would be missed. Crawford said he was upset after one of his early council meetings, when Wiggins reminded him that each person only had one vote and they were all equal. "That's something I've always remembered," he said. Councilman Glenn Higgins also thanked Wiggins for his years of service and said he would also miss his presence on the City Council. Sears said he would report back to the council when he had a definitive date for the special election.
