Golf teams head to region tournament By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
The region golf tournament began Monday and Fayette County High School entered with a little bit of momentum. The Tigers defeated Eagle's Landing last Tuesday at Eagle's Landing Country Club by 15 strokes. Josh Burr and Ian Cutting shot a 40, which was four over par, and Andrew Huff shot a 42. The following day saw the Tigers beat Henry County at Georgia National Golf Club by 16 strokes. Paul Figel shot a 39 for Fayette County while Matt White, Andrew Huff and Stephen Weitzel all had rounds of 40. Suzanne White joined the boys golf team at the region tournament, which was held at White Oak golf club in Newnan. The Sandy Creek girls team is performing very well this year as well. The team, which consists of senior Brittney Bryant and juniors Amanda Thomas and Erin Mahone, is currently 11-0 going into the final two matches of the regular season. The Lady Patriots faced Westlake yesterday and will take on Banneker tomorrow before playing in the region tournament at Honey Creek golf course in Conyers next Tuesday. Sandy Creek's competition will come from Woodward Academy, who is the favorite to capture the region championship. The top two teams from the region will enter the state tournament and Coach Jim Waller feels his team is in the hunt for one of those two spots.
