Tennis teams get wins in region tournament By MICHAEL

The region tennis tournament began last week and the local teams are on a collision course to face each other. Starr's Mill's boys won their first match against Henry County 5-0. Singles winners were John Esterline, Eric Jackson and Brian O'Keefe and doubles winners were Drew Evans and Chad Newton and Patrick Davis and Adam Esterline. The Panthers faced Fayette County yesterday afternoon and the winner will play at South Cedar Park in Henry County tomorrow. The McIntosh boys won their match against Mt. Zion-Jonesboro 5-0 while the Lady Chiefs won their match by forfeit. Singles winners for the boys were B.J. James, James Dwyer and Marc Dwyer while doubles winners were Robert Lochridge and Justin Hale and Phil Van Fossan and Stefan James. Things were tougher for McIntosh in the Buckhead Rotary Tournament. The girls lost to Westminster 3-1 after the doubles match between Adrian Hodges and Lauren Wilde was pulled in the second set at 6-6. The only winners for the Lady Chiefs were Sunya Sweeney and Shelby Carlson who won their match 6-2, 6-2. The Lady Chiefs then faced Marist and won 3-1. Priscilla Roberts and Denise Daughenbaugh were winners in singles, while Sweeney and Carlson won their doubles match and Hodges and Wilde's match was pulled in the second set. McIntosh's girls lost in the third round in the consolation final to Lassiter, 3-2. Rebecca Timmis won her singles match, 6-2, 6-2 and Hodges and Wilde won their doubles match, 6-0, 6-4. As for the boys, they lost to Milton, 3-1. James Dwyer won his singles match, 6-0 and 6-3, while Marc Dwyer's match was pulled in the second set. In the second round, the Chiefs lost to Walton, 3-2 as James and Marc Dwyer both won their singles matches.
