Round one of the region 4-AAAAA soccer tournament is over and by the time you read this article, round two will be over as well. The playoffs began last Friday and the local soccer teams fared well.

McIntosh's boys and girls continued their dominant play as the boys defeated Henry County, 6-0 and the girls defeated Henry County, 9-0. The Lady Chiefs hosted Fayette County last night, while the boys took on Newnan. McIntosh's girls defeated Fayette County 7-0 earlier in the season, while the McIntosh boys team just edged out Newnan, 2-1, two weeks ago.

Starr's Mill's Lady Panthers bounced back from a 3-2 loss to Pope last Thursday to defeat East Coweta, 8-0. The Starr's Mill boys faced Lovejoy and won 4-0. Starr's Mill's girls hosted Newnan last night while the boys hosted Fayette County. Newnan's Lady Cougars advanced to the second round by blanking Stockbridge, 7-0.

Fayette County's Lady Tigers stayed in the mix by defeating Jonesboro, 3-1 on penalty kicks. The two teams were deadlocked at 1-1 after regulation and two overtimes.

The Fayette County boys won their game against Evans, 3-0 and set up a rematch with Starr's Mill, which defeated them 4-0 in the regular season.

The next round of games will be on Friday and one can expect some fairly intense local action, no matter who wins.
