The region 4-AAAAA soccer playoff start today and local teams have an excellent chance of advancing and qualifying for the state tournament.

Both McIntosh and Starr's Mill's boys and girls teams are the top seeds in the sub-divisions and appear to be on a collision course to meet in the region finals, like last year. McIntosh's boys and girls are both undefeated, while both Starr's Mill teams have lost to some ranked opponents.

The McIntosh Lady Chiefs have only given up two goals this year and one of those goals came on Monday as they defeated ninth-ranked Walton 2-1. The Lady Chiefs, ranked first in AAAAA, will host Henry County at 5:30 p.m. today. The McIntosh boys soccer team, ranked third in AAAAA, faced McEachern last night in a tune up for the playoffs and will host Stockbridge in the first round of the region playoffs at 7:30 p.m.

Starr's Mill's girls, ranked eighth in AAAAA, faced Pope Wednesday night. They were riding a five-game winning streak going into the game. They will open the playoffs at home Friday with a game against east Coweta at 7:30 p.m. The Starr's Mill boys team is also ranked eight in AAAAA. The Panthers faced Harrison Tuesday night and won 5-1. They will begin the region playoffs at home against Lovejoy Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Fayette County's Lady Tigers finished their season with two straight ties. They tied Northgate 1-1 last Thursday and tied Upson Lee 1-1 Tuesday night. The lady Tigers will open the region playoffs on the road Friday at Jonesboro at 6 p.m.

The Fayette County boys defeated Upson Lee 2-1 Tuesday night. They have two games in a row going into their playoff game against Evans Friday. The game will take place at Fayette County high School at 8 p.m.

East Coweta's Lady Indians defeated Columbus 2-1 Tuesday night and will play at Starr's Mill at 7:30 p.m. The East Coweta boys team will host Mt. Zion, Jonesboro tonight at 7 p.m. The Newnan lady Cougars faced McEachern Wednesday night and will open the playoffs at home against Stockbridge at 7 p.m.

Sandy Creek's boys and girls play in region 4-AAAA and have one more game in their regular season. The boys were all but eliminated from the playoffs with a 3-2 overtime loss to Union Grove. They defeated Northgate 5-2 in overtime Tuesday but will need a lot to happen to make the state playoffs.

The Lady Patriots lost to Northgate 7-0 Tuesday. Both the boys and girls were scheduled to host Southside yesterday and both will play at Shaw next Wednesday.
