Time travel is currently not possible no matter how fast you drive your car or how many flux capacitors you build. However, those wishing to travel back to the Renaissance period are in luck. The Georgia Renaissance Festival returns for seven weekends starting this weekend and patrons can step back 400 years in one day.

The Georgia Renaissance Festival features a wide selection of artisans, entertainers, games and treats. Old favorites like the Washing Well Wenches, the Zucchini Brothers Juggling and Comedy Show, Great Cats of the World, Cast in Bronze, Lost Boys, the Royal Petting Zoo, the Amazing Maze and, of course, those terrific turkey legs all return to the grounds. There are also a slew of new attractions to the festival as well.

The World famous Hanlon-Lees Jousting Knights, featured in the films "Black Knight" and "The Mask of Zorro," will thrill audiences with their pageantry, comedy and combat. The Hanlon-Lees had a successful limited run off-Broadway and are favorites of Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Gang. Other new attractions this year are Mother and Father Goose, which can be cuddles, hugged and petted, a cub show featuring baby lions, leopards and cheetahs, African Dance and Drums, Zilch the Torysteller, who tells the exciting tales of Rindercella, Loldigocks and Jomeo and Ruliet, Mickle-A-Do, a Celtic quintet, and two new rides, the Piccolo Pony and the Whirlabout.

There will be a number of special weekends. This weekend is 2-for-1 opening weekend. Buy one adult ticket and the second ticket is free. The following weekend is Oktoberfest in Spring Beer Festival which will feature relay races and the Guinness Perfect Pour contest. Scottish Highland Weekend is May 4-5 and will showcase Scottish dance exhibitions, Atholl Highlanders Pipe and Drum band, and the Amazing Canine Border Collies. Mother's Day weekend is May 11-12, and Kids Free Weekend is May 18-19 where two children are admitted for free per one paid adult. Memorial Day Weekend will give people an extra day to attend the festival as they will be open for the Monday holiday.

The Georgia Renaissance Festival is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Discount tickets are available on-line at www.georgiarenaissancefestival.com or at Kroger and Chevron. Tickets are $15 for adults, $11 for seniors and $6 for children ages 6-12. Children under the age of six will be admitted free. Phone 770-964-8575.
