Region playoffs in soccer start Friday By MICHAEL
BOYLAN The region playoffs will start this Friday for the local teams in 4-AAAAA, but the seedings were not determined until late last night, after many of the the teams had played their final game of the regular season and the paper had already gone to press. The McIntosh Lady Chiefs were scheduled to face Walton Monday, while the boys were scheduled to play McEachern last night. The Chiefs defeated Newnan 2-1 Friday. Both the boys and girls teams are the top seeds in the West subdivision of the region and wil host home games this Friday night. The girls will play at 6 p.m. and the boys game will follow. Starr's Mill's girls and boys, the top seeds in the East subdivision, played Henry County Friday. The Lady Panthers won 6-0 and the boys won 1-0 in overtime. The Lady Panthers also faced Marist on Monday and won 4-2. The boys team was scheduled to face Harrison last night and the girls will play at Pope tonight at 7:30 p.m. in what will be a good tune up for the playoffs. Starr's Mill will also host home games this Friday night beginning at 6 p.m. Fayette County's girls tied Northgate 1-1 last week while the boys won 3-2. Last night both teams were scheduled to host Upson Lee. The Lady Tigers will likely open up the region playoffs on the road, while the boys will host a home game Friday. Sandy Creek, which plays in 4-AAAA, has several games left in their season. Both the boys and girls hosted Northgate last night and will host Southside tomorrow with the girls game scheduled for 5 p.m. and the boys game scheduled for 7 p.m. They will close out the regular season at Shaw next Wednesday. The Lady Patriots will play at 5 p.m. and the boys game will follow.
