Baseball teams get big wins over break By MICHAEL
BOYLAN It was an afternoon delight for Starr's Mill baseball fans last Friday. The Panthers hosted East Coweta, one of the top teams in the region, and won 2-1. Both teams struck in the first inning. Starr's Mill's Kyle Jones scored off of an error to tie the game in the bottom of the first inning. From then on both squads played great defense. Starr's Mill turned severa double plays to get out of jams and East Coweta shut the Panthers down twice when the bases were loaded. The Panthers broke the tie in the seventh inning when pinch runner Casey Bono was walked home. The win ended the Indians' 10 game win streak. Chris Strauch was the winning pitcher. he finished the day with six strikeouts as he collected his fourth win of the season. Starr's Mill faced Newnan on Monday and lost 5-1. East Coweta faced the McIntosh Chiefs on Monday and won 12-2. McIntosh faced North Clayton last Friday and won 11-1. Tim Battle threw a no hitter for the Chiefs and struck out 11 batters. Battle also went two for four at the plate, while Blake Watson went three for three. Mahal de'Castro hit a homerun and drove in three runs on Friday, while John King, Jon Corbi and J.T. Thompson also drove in runs. Starr's Mill and McIntosh will face off today at McIntosh at 7 p.m. Fayette County won their sixth game in a row on Monday by defeating Forest Park, 4-0. In their game against Lovejoy last week, the Tigers won 6-3 and got a strong pitching performance from Josh Hunter who gave up seven hits and eight strikeouts. The Tigers sent 10 batters to the plate in the second inning and scored five runs. Kyle Martin drove in two runs and Matt Owens hit a homerun in the win. Fayette County will host North Clayton today at 5:30 p.m. and will play at East Coweta on Friday at 7 p.m.
