Baseball teams get big wins

The local high school baseball teams spent their spring break on the diamond this week and the results have been positive all the way around.

Starr's Mill picked up wins against Forest Park, 8-1, and North Clayton, 15-0. In the game against Forest Park, the Panthers got good pitcing from Myron Jensen, got RBI from Glen Oat, Jason Earwood, Andrew Bashakes, Andy Kragor, Gary Kubik and Billy Morrison and capitalized on nine Forest Park errors. Jensen gave up five hits and struck out four batters.

The solid offense and good defense continued in their drubbing of North Clayton. Pitcher Bryan Dunlap had a no hitter going with two outs to go before giving up a single. He started the game retiring 12 of the first 14 batters he faced. The Panthers had 13 hits. Earwood and Jake Jones each scored three runs and Oat and Jones each drove in two runs. Starr's Mill will host East Coweta today at 1 p.m.

McIntosh faced Lovejoy on Monday and won 13-0. J.T. Thompson was the winning pitcher for the Chiefs, giving up two hits and striking out four batters. The Chiefs scored six runs in the first inning, including a two-run home run from Mahal de'Castro. De'Castro drove in two more runs in the game and went three for three at the plate. Tim Battle and Stephen Hall each drove in two runs and eight McIntosh players scored at least one run in the win. McIntosh will host North Clayton today at 2 p.m.

Fayette County got a 12-1 win over Riverdale Monday. Joseph Edens threw a complete game one hitter and struck out 10 batters along the way. The Tigers led 3-0 going into the fifth inning and then launched an offensive attack. Edens and Matt Owens hit RBI doubles back to back and Jason Hardwick drove in three more runs as the Tigers improved to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in district play. Fayette County will host Forest Park Monday at 5:30 p.m.
