Six Flags celebrates 35 years with new roller coaster By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a roller coaster? Six Flags Over Georgia recently opened for weekend operation and will also be open for the rest of this week for Spring Break. The park added two new thrill rides last year to all of the rides and attractions patrons have grown to love. There will be a new addition to the park this Saturday, when Superman Ultimate Flight accepts riders. Superman Ultimate Flight is a rollercoaster that lets passengers feel as if they are flying like the Man of Steel. Passengers take their seats and are tilted forward into flying positions. They travel up a 115-foot lift hill and then are taken on a wild ride through curves, spirals and the first ever pretzel-shaped inverted loop at 65 miles per hour. Of course there are dozens of other rides at the park including Deja Vu, a coaster that takes passengers forward and backward over an enormous drop at speeds close to 65 miles per hour, and Acrophobia, which drops standing passengers 161 feet and stops them 10 feet from the ground. If you need something a bit tamer there are bumper cars, log rides, a carousel and the Monster Plantation. There are also a number of live performances including a magic show, the Gotham City Circus, concerts, the Wild West Comedy Gunfight Show and more. There will also be several special concerts and events throughout the year. Sugar Ray will perform their hits on May 18 and a Gospel Jubilee will take place June 1. Atlanta Fest, a four-day series of Christian concerts and events, will take place June 19-22. Country Music Week will be July 21-28. There will be a Latin Music Festival Sept. 8 and, of course, Fright Fest, weekends in October. Six Flags Over Georgia is also celebrating its 35th birthday this year and will host a celebration complete with cake and entertainment June 9. Six Flags is open weekends until May 24 and gates open at 10 a.m. General admission is $39.99 and junior and senior admission is $24.99. Season passes are also available.
