Tigers and Panthers baseball teams win region games By MICHAEL

Major League Baseball opened their season on Monday, symbolizing a new year and the start of spring. For fans players and coaches of high school baseball, spring was already here as the teams began playing their region schedules. Fayette County's Tigers defeated Eagle's Landing last week and then produced wins over fifth ranked Evans and Stockbridge. The Tigers got a 2-1 win over the Evans Knights thanks to four double plays and RBIs from Matt Hankins and Jordan Stone. The game against Stockbridge was even more difficult as the Stockbridge Tigers had a 3-0 lead before T.J. Brandenburg drove in a run. Stockbridge struck again with three more runs in the third before Lee Hyde hit his first of two homeruns on the day. Fayette County added two more runs after the Hyde homerun and trailed Stockbridge by two. Stockbridge added one more run in the fifth but Hyde tied the game in his next at bat with a three run homerun. The game went to extra innings and Hankins drove in the go ahead run with a suicide squeeze. The Tigers, 3-0 in region play, played at Lovejoy yesterday and will host Forest Park on Mondayat 5:30 p.m. Starr's Mill faced Lovejoy last Friday and won 4-2. Pitcher Chris Strauch retired the first nine batters he faced and allowed the Panthers to jump out to an early 3-0 lead. In the first inning, Jake Jones drove in a run and scored off of a suicide squeeze, while Jason Earwood scored off a wild pitch. Kyle Jones drove in the fourth run for Starr's Mill with an RBI triple before Lovejoy scored two runs. Strauch got the win for Starr's Mill and threw seven strikeouts, while Andy Kragor picked up the save. The Panthers play at North Clayton today at noon and will host East Coweta at 1 p.m. on Friday and Newnan at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The McIntosh Chiefs will host Forest Park at 5:30 p.m. today and North Claytpn at 2 p.m. on Friday. They will travel to East Coweta on Monday for a 5:30 p.m. game.
