Track teams do well at Georgia Coaches Invitational

The local high school track teams sent representatives to the Track Coaches of Georgia Invitational at Georgia Tech last week and the boys and girls had some good finishes.

In the girls' 100-meter dash, Fayette County's Erica Hall placed sixth with a time of 13.02. In the 1,600-meter race, Starr's Mill's Heather Krehbiel finished 12th at 5:31, while Fayette County's Margaret Sams placed 15th at 5:36. Judy Thomasson and Alexandra Huguelet of McIntosh placed 19th and 25th with times of 5:47 and 6:14, and Fayette County's Katie Gaspierik placed 26th at 6:20.

Fayette County and Starr's Mill's girls relay teams also did well at the meet. The Lady Tigers placed 14th in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 52.26 and 14th in the 4x400-meter relay at 4:21. In the 4x800-meter relay, Starr's Mill placed seventh at 10:27 and Fayette County placed 17th at 11:40. The Starr's Mill girls placed sixth in the 4x1,600-meter relay with a time of 23:26, while the girls from Fayette County finished 12th at 27:24.

Fayette County's girls also placed 18th in the 800-meter sprint medley with a time of 1:57.73 and Starr's Mill's Amanda Owens placed sixth in the high jump, clearing 4'10".

In the boys races, Fayette County's Michael Brownlee and Quierius Harrett placed 14th and 16th respectively with times of 11.85 and 11.87. McIntosh's Shaun Emery placed seventh in the 1,600-meter race with a time of 4:30.74, while Fayette County's John Miklas placed 24th at 4:47.08 and McIntosh's Ben Brantley placed 26th at 4:47.48.

Fayette County finished 12th in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 44.41 while Starr's Mill finished 14th at 44.50. The Tigers placed 13th in the 4x400-meter realy with a time of 3:30 and were followed by the Panthers who finished 15th with a time of 3:32. McIntosh placed sixth in the 4x800-meter race with a time of 8:25, while Fayette County placed 25th with a time of 9:24. Fayette County placed 12th in the 4x1,600-meter relay with a time of 19:40 and Starr's Mill finished 15th at 19:44.

Starr's Mill placed seventh in the 800 sprint medley with a time of 1:36.86. They were folowed by Fayette County, which finished 15th with a time of 19:44. McIntosh's Seth Yetter placed seventh in the high jump with a jump of 5'10".

Starr's Mill's Che Brewer placed seventh in the triple jump with a jump of 41'1.5" while Fayette County's Brandon Truesdale placed 11th with a jump of 40'06.5".
