Racing season starts in Senoia

The racing season has started up again and Senoia Speedway is full of exciting racing action.

Steve Crane of Zebulon, Ga. started on the front row of the Allan Vigil Ford Big 10 Super Late Model 100, outside of pole winner Clarke Ninneman, and quickly charged to the lead position. Crane would lead the caution free race until lap 64, when Griffin's Warren Mobley who consistently challenged Crane for the lead, took the position. Mobley held the lead until lap 95, when Crane made his final advance to the lead position, capturing the $3,000.00 purse.

Crane and Mobley were followed by: Korey Ruble, Stephen Leicht, and Dale George. Stephen Leicht made an impressive charge to the front after starting the race from the back row. Leicht and George battled for the fourth position, door-to-door for most of the race.

In an exciting Modified Mini Stock race, defending Champion Ty Stewart appeared to be on his way to his first victory of the season, until Jonesboro driver Keith Adams challenged him for the lead. The two cars made contact on lap 13 and spun out, relinquishing the lead to Chris Wigman, who lead the remainder of the race.

After a years absence from racing, Newnan driver Johnny Todd returned, and captured the first Sportsman race of the season. Todd jumped out to an impressive lead, and held off the aggressive veteran Sportsman Driver Rod Williford for the win. Finsihing thrid through fifth were Charles White, Andy Cash and Mark Lore.

Last year's Semi-Pro Division Champion Bobby East, from Dallas, Ga., captured the first Legends Pro Division race. Doug Ludwing placed second and was followed by Kayne Hichman, Michelle Thierault and Pete Boyer.

A competitive race among the young guns in Legends Young Lions proved to be an exciting event for the fans, with Chris Delbeck taking the Checkered Flag. Preston Seagraves placed second and was followed by Tony Yawn Jr., Adam Quattlebaum and Shaun Fitzgerald.

The first Bandolero race of the 2002 season proved to be an exciting event. The drivers battled bumper-to-bumper, and side-by-side for much of the race, with Vince Ponder taking theheckered flag. He was followed by Matthew Peeples, Trey Maughan, Brandon Jackson and John Wes Townley.

Sammy Barge jumped out to an early lead in the modified street stock race with Sammy Short continuing to close the distance. Bubba Bales continued to be a threat to take second place, should Barge or Short make a mistake. As the race entered the final five laps, Short dropped low on the track, and held the inside line, finally taking the lead and the win. He was followed by Barge and Bales.
