BOYLAN
The local high school baseball teams finished their version of spring training and began playing games in their region schedule this week. The preseason gave all of the coaches causes for optimism and concern. They are getting solid performances from their players, but they are also experiencing dry spells that could lead to losses. After defeating Sandy Creek in a barn burner, Fayette County lost to parkview at home and then traveled to take on Shaw, ranked first in AAAA. The Tigers struck first when Joseph Edens hit an RBI double, but Shaw answered back with three runs. Fayette County narrowed the Raiders lead to one after Matt Owens hit a sacrifice fly. The Tigers lost 3-2 but opened their region schedule on monday with a 5-4 win over Eagle's Landing. The Tigers travel to take on Evans today at 5 p.m. and wil host Stockbridge on Friday at 7 p.m. Sandy Creek has had their share of big wins this season but they have also had to endure some tough losses. The Patriots beat Union Grove 11-1 in five innings. Tyler Herrin and Jack Cranford each drove in two runs for the Patriots. Jarrod Jones, Griffin Hall, Dusty Bennett and Trea Ward are hitting well for Sandy Creek as well. After the win against Union Grove, Sandy Creek lost three in a row, falling to East Paulding, 5-3, Jonesboro, 8-3 and Central Gwinnett, 12-9. The Patriots faced region opponent Westlake on Monday and won 11-8. They will play at Creekside this afternoon. The McIntosh Chiefs open their region schedule today with a 5:30 p.m. game at Riverdale. McIntosh will host Eagle's Landing at 7 p.m. on Saturday and will play at Lovejoy at 7 p.m. on Monday. Starr's Mill opens their region schedule today at Eagle's Landing at 6 p.m. The Panthers will host Lovejoy on Friday at 7 p.m. |
