Peachtree City UMC breaks ground for 50,000 sq. ft. facility

Some 400-plus members of the Peachtree City United Methodist Church, led by Senior Pastor Chuck Hodges, recently gathered on a newly cleared, kudzu-free piece of land located on the north end of Robinson Road to celebrate the official groundbreaking on the 64-acre property purchased by the church in September of 1999.

"The groundbreaking service was the culmination of the three-year vision casting process of discerning God's call to reach out to the community in ministry," a church spokesperson said. "With the limited space available for growth on the present six-acre Windgate Road property, church members realized that making more room for more people could only be accomplished by purchasing land to develop another campus."

The facility planned for the first phase of construction is a 50,000 sq. ft. multipurpose building for worship and adult ministries. The three-story building will include nursery and children's education space, a 1,000-seat worship center, administrative offices, and classrooms for youth and adults.

In addition to the new facility being built on the Robinson Road campus, plans are underway to renovate the present church building for a Children's and Youth Ministry Center for Peachtree City. The existing sanctuary will be converted to a gymnasium, making Peachtree City United Methodist Church available to the community as a recreation facility.

The current ground and first floor classrooms will be outfitted for infants and preschool age children, enabling the Mother's Morning Out and pre-school programs of the church to accommodate twice as many children. The existing fellowship hall will be converted to a state-of-the-art youth lounge, and third floor classrooms will be dedicated to children's and youth programs.

Subsequent phases for the Robinson Road campus will include more educational spaces, a dedicated sanctuary, a youth building, a Boy Scout/Girl Scout facility, and outdoor community recreational/leisure space. For more information, call the church office, 770-487-6499.
