Where the buffalo roam By
F.C. FOODIE
Ted Turner's latest business effort is hitting a grand slam in Peachtree City. Ted's Montana Grill opened to rave reviews last week at The Avenue Shopping Center. The restaurant is a collaboration between Turner and Longhorn founder George McKerrow. Ted's features blue plate specials, chicken sandwiches and big, beefy burgers. But the restaurant is one of the first chains around the country to feature nearly 25 versions of bison burgers. Turner fell in love with the majestic animal when he bought a ranch in Montana. He started with three bison and now boasts a herd of more than 30,000. The Atlanta businessman wants to encourage more people to raise the animal, and is out to prove that bison is an acceptable solution to beef. In my mind, it's more than acceptable. A huge bison burger tastes exactly like hamburger. But here's the kicker; it has only 2.9 grams of fat. Compare that with your average McBurger in fast food chains, and you'll realize the health benefits of bison. Ted's other food includes wonderful French fries, and onion rings that are absolutely the best I have ever had. The restaurant is outfitted with warm tones of a wood and a tin stamped ceiling. It's a long and narrow restaurant that reminds me of similar eateries in New York City. For my money, Ted's is one of the most exciting concepts to open in Fayette County in a long time.
