Peachtree City names Builder of the Year

Huddleston-Thompson Inc., a home building company headed by two men with deep roots in their community, has been named Residential Builder of the Year by the Peachtree City Building Department.

This is the second time that Huddleston-Thompson has earned the award, with the first honor coming in 1997. Announcement of the award came at a recent Peachtree City Council meeting.

The partners in Huddleston-Thompson are Bill Huddleston and David Thompson. Huddleston is a lifetime resident of Peachtree City, and his grandfather and father were the owners of much of the land which has become Peachtree City. Thompson1s family moved to Fayetteville in 1959 and then to Peachtree City in 1968. His parents first operated a pharmacy in Fayetteville, then opened the first pharmacy in Peachtree City, and later became involved in the local real estate industry.

Thompson first worked with a general contractor in Atlanta after his graduation from Fayette County High School, and he and Huddleston started building together in 1983. Their efforts were primarily in Fayette County until the early 1990s, when they began concentrating on the Peachtree City market. Specializing in high quality custom homes, Huddleston-Thompson has built in SmokeRise, StoneyBrook Plantation, Southern Shore, and for the past four years, in Kedron Hills. They are now in The Peninsula, having purchased 18 homesites there.

Huddleston-Thompson usually builds only four to five homes a year. "We rarely build the same house twice," said Huddleston, noting that "most of the time people see what we've done, then come to us with the plan they want us to build."

In the company organization, Huddleston is in charge of administrative matters, while Thompson spends most of his time at job sites. However, both men spend a great deal of time working with the homeowners throughout the building process. Wayne Ellington serves as supervisor, while James Hall assists Thompson and and Ellington at the homes under construction.
