Race cars and real estate

Nearly every industry imaginable has capitalized on the immense popularity of NASCAR in recent years, and the local real estate industry is no exception.

With all of the popular drivers in town for last weekend's big races at Atlanta Motor Speedway, marketers of the new Liberty Square neighborhood just north of the speedway now in development brought out a racing champion for a special grand opening early last week.

Visitors to the event got a chance to take a close look at the number 46 car driven by Frank Kimmel, ARCA points champion three of the past four years. Penny Henderson of Coldwell Banker Bullard Realty, who is marketing homes in Liberty Square, is Kimmel's sister.

Kimmel appeared with his brother Bill, ARCA's Crew Chief of the Year the past two years. While they signed autographs, posed for photographs and chatted with racing fans, attendees were able to find out about Liberty Square, whose main entrance is directly off Highway 19-41. Its three neighborhoods will have some 400 homes when completed, ranging from $120,000 to the $180,000s, and commercial parcels are being developed at the front of the property. Amenities for residents will include a swimming pool and a play park.

The community is being developed by Tom Reese of Reese Builders & Developers. Henderson is marketing homes built by The Davis Company of Fine Homes Building Inc.

One of the Metro South area's better known Realtors, Henderson has just recently affiliated with the Jonesboro/Clayton County office of Coldwell Banker Bullard Realty, the largest Coldwell Banker franchised company in Georgia.

Henderson, who has been in real estate since 1990, is known by many as "The Church Lady" because of her work in the marketing of church properties. Over the years, she has sold or placed under contract 10 church properties, including Peoples Baptist Church in Morrow, which was sold to Allen Vigil Southlake Ford; Eagle's Landing Baptist, Morrow Church of God, Victory Baptist Church, Eagle Heights Baptist Church, Rock Springs Baptist Church, Lake City Baptist Church, Cross Roads Baptist Church, and Christian Fellowship. She currently has Glen Haven Baptist Church under contract, and she has listings on First Baptist Church of Conley and Maranatha Baptist Church.

In the area of new home sales, Mrs. Henderson is the marketing agent for several area residential communities, including Carnes Estates in Jonesboro, Neal's Trace and Kellen's Meadow in Fayetteville, and Liberty Square in Hampton.

She is an associate broker and was Top Producer for her previous company the past 10 years and was Agent of the Year for 10 of the past 12 years. In 2001, she broke all company records for income.

Henderson holds Active Phoenix status in the Million Dollar Club, and she has membership in the Fayette County Board of Realtors and the Metro South, Georgia and National Association of Realtors and the Women's Council of Realtors. For the past three years, she has been named to Communities Magazine's "Communities 100" listing of the metro area's leading Realtors.

A resident of Stockbridge, she has been married for 31 years to Don Henderson, who retired from Delta Airlines in 2000 and is also a Realtor now with Coldwell Banker Bullard. They have three sons: Donny, 26, who is married and has two daughters, Julia Brooke, 2, and Jenna Brea, 8 months old; Tommy, 24, a former Old Guard/Presidential Honor Guard member with the U. S. Army who is now a student at Trinity Baptist College; and Adam, 23, a criminal justice major at Clayton State College & University.

She is a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church in Morrow, where she sings in the choir and her husband plays the guitar.
