Wednesday, March 13, 2002 Lake Windsong underway in Tyrone Lake Windsong, the 285-acre residential development underway in Tyrone, is being designed to blend the elegance of the homes with the natural beauty of the rolling, wooded countryside of the site. "In our planning, we've placed great emphasis on preserving as many trees as possible," said developer Joel Cowan Jr. of Lake Windsong Development Company LLC. "As a result of this and other measures, Lake Windsong will project rustic elegance and have the ambiance of a secluded mountain retreat." Cowan, who is also involved in the development of Highgrove, an upscale Fayette County community on Redwine Road, noted that while Lake Windsong is in a secluded area, it has convenient access to Interstate 85, Canongate Golf Club, and the shopping, dining and entertainment facilities in Peachtree City. A 167-homesite community with homes priced from the $250,000s, Lake Windsong is accessible from Castlewood Road through the existing Windsong community. A focal point of the community's rustic theme will be The Lodge, the clubhouse for the community, which will be located on the 18-acre lake. Reminiscent of a mountain lodge, the building will have a low maintenance exterior with a cedar and stone look and will feature timber frame construction. The interior will contain a large open room with a cozy seating area fronting a huge stone fireplace, as well as a kitchen. Overlooking the downstairs will be a loft, part of which will initially be used as a sales center. The loft will feature a meeting room and four work cubicles with access to the high speed internet that is installed throughout Lake Windsong. Eventually, the loft will be available as a teleworking center to residents who want to take advantage of the technology and the comfortable setting of this "office away from the office." Also included at The Lodge will be a swimming pool, tennis court, playground and boat dock. The development will also have a 14-acre nature area adjacent to Line Creek with unpaved walking paths, as well as a picnic shelter and secluded benches. Lake Windsong will also offer paved bike paths which will be connected to the town of Tyrone's multi use pathway system. The new Lake Windsong community, where there will be approximately 63 homesites in the first phase, will have sidewalks and streetlights, and the lots will be one acre in size. The homes will be wired with the latest in technology and advanced home wiring systems for home officing, high speed internet access, and digital cable TV from Newnan Utilities. "We will have internet and intranet capability exclusively for our community," said Cowan. "Also, while other communities have installed the basic package, we've gone a step above. Our basic package will offer more services to the homeowner from the beginning. We will have a higher degree of integration and a home automation package." With much of the initial planning and development work wrapped up, Lake Windsong's next stage is the completion of the builder team and the start of the home marketing process.
