Development authority embarks on strategy session for future growth In an effort to better position Fayette County for future stable and diversified economic development, the Fayette County Development Authority is undertaking a six-month strategic planning process titled Fayette 2020. The calendar calls for a series of in-depth workshops and studies to help prepare a long-term strategy that will offer better business attraction, creation, retention, expansion and redevelopment opportunities throughout the county. The first workshop was Wednesday, Feb. 20. During this meeting a group of local consultants, statewide experts and members of the FCDA discussed the development of a foreign investment initiative to recruit and target small international companies entering the U.S. market. The gathering featured an international overview of current prospect activity by Tim Evans, assistant deputy commissioner of trade for the Georgia Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism, and was followed by presentations by Don O'Sullivan of International Consulting Services, Gabi Pfaff of EmoTrans, and Katrin Eckstein of Peachtree City. The group identified a host of international markets to research. The meeting also included discussions of local partnerships, marketing advantages, business service needs and other issues by representatives from Georgia Power Company, the Georgia Foreign Trade Zone, Execuserve, Pathway Communities, Prudential Realty, The Development Authority of Peachtree City and others. FCDA will conduct further research and meetings regarding the foreign investment initiative as it continues the planning process. The next workshop will be March 27 in order to begin the development of the established business initiative and it will be followed by a May 1 workshop to detail the intellectual capital initiative. A public meeting is planned for June. For information on the process, or if you would like to participate, phone the Fayette County Development Authority at 770-461-5253. |
